Top 25 of 2017: #1 Gabriela Koukalova

The Czech Biathlete, formerly known by her maiden name Soukalova, claims the top spot in this years Hot Women in Sport Top 25. It feels apt as we come into the Winter Sport season and especially a Winter Olympics that a Winter Sportswomen wins the award. She won three medals at the World Championships, a Gold in the 7.km Sprint, a Silver in the 15km Individual, and a Bronze in the 10km Pursuit. In the World Cup she was second Overall, and won Gold in the Sprint and the Mass Start. She also won Sports Person of the Year for 2017 for the Czech Republic.

Gabriela first featured on the site in November 2015. She finished in 5th place in the 2016 Top 25 list. If the Olympics go well, she is a certainty for the top places this next year too.

Top 25 of 2017: #2 Dafne Schippers

Dafne is no doubt the queen of HWiS, this is her fourth top 25 appearance, being a former 1st place in 2015. She finishes second again this year, the same as in 2014 and in 2016, meaning she has never been outside the top 2. She remains one of the most popular girls on the site, and remains an immensely successful athlete.
Still only 25, the Dutch sprinter enjoyed a Gold and a Bronze at the World Championships in London during the Summer. She won Gold in the 200m and Bronze in the 100m.
She was first on HWiS in August 2014, and has appeared in every Top 25 countdown.

Top 25 of 2017: #3 Lieke Martens

The Dutch Footballer had a wonderful 2017. She won both the 2017 FIFA Player of the Year and the 2017 UEFA Womens Player of the year. This is after the Dutch success on home soil in the European Championships, which Lieke was an integral part of, even winning player of the tournament. She also got a huge move club wise., moving from Swedish club FC Rosengard to the Spanish giants Barcelona.
Lieke was first featured on the site in May 2015. This is her first ever appearance in the Top 25, but she has featured in the Hottest Women in the World Cup feature previously

Top 25 of 2017: #4 Jolanda Neff

The Swiss Mountain Biker had another great year. She finsihed as World Champion in Cross Country Mountain Bike winning the World Championship in Cairns, Australia. She also finished second in the World Cup with a first place finish in Val di Sole. Now 24 she is one of the top hit getters for HWiS for three years she has been in the most searched for options.
Jolanda makes her second appearance in the Top 25, also finishing 4th in 2015. She missed out in 2016. Jolanda first appeared on the site in April 2015 and has also featured a Best of Instagram in February 2017

Top 25 of 2017: #5 Kristina Mladenovic

We've had other girls this year make an appearance based more on popularity than success and Kristina is another of those. She was exceptionally popular this year coming in the top places for hits alone, and that has seen her finish in 5th place on the top list. That said, she did have successes, with her first time in the Top 10 in the WTA rankings, she made the quarter finals of the French Open.
Kristina has never been close to making the Top 25 before, so crashing in at 5th this year is a surprise. Her huge popularity this year has outstripped previous hits, since she first appeared in September 2016

Top 25 of 2017: #6 Tahnee Seagrave

The British Mountain Biker is in at 6th in the Top 25 list. The 22 year old from London finished 3rd in the 2017 rankings in Mountain Bike Downhill, with 1st place finishes on the tour in the season. She however finished a disappointing 11th in the World Championships, and 2nd in the British Championships.
Tahnee has never finished in the top 25 before, and was first featured on the site in October 2015.However she has proved to be very popular this year.

Top 25 of 2017: #7 Hilary Knight

American Ice Hockey player Hilary Knight was part of the US Squad that won the World Championships on home soil this past year. The 28 year old will likely appear in her third Olympics in 2018, so will be seeking to better her two silver medals so far. Her team Boston Pride were runners up in the Isobel Cup.
This is Hilary's first appearance in the Top 25 as she only featured on the site for the first time in July 2017

Top 25 of 2017: #8 Ranomi Kromowidjojo

The Dutch swimmer has had another great year, without winning any World Championships. She won three silvers in Budapest and one Bronze. Two of those were individual medals in the 50m Butterfly and the 50m Freestyle. The other medals were 100m relays. She also set a World Record for 50m Short Course in Berlin.
Ranomi is making her second Top 25 appearance, alos finishing 8th in 2016. She was first featured on the site in June 2016

Top 25 of 2017: #9 Mireia Belmonte

Mireia had a wonderful 2017. 3 medals at the World Championships, one of which was Gold, and two silvers has seen her have one of the highest suuccess ratios of all the Top 25. Coupled with her popularity on the site its seen her come in at 9th. Her Gold came in the 200m Butterfly, which was one better than her silver at the 2016 Olympics. The 400m Medley is also a speciality for her and she won Silver there, as well as the 1500m Freestyle.
This is the Spaniards first ever Top 25 appearance. She first featured in May 2015.

Top 25 of 2017: #10 Sara Bjork Gunnarsdottir

Icelandic Footballer Sara has had a lot of success on the field this season. The 27 year old who plays for Wolfsburg, won a League and cup double domestically this season, and made the Champions League Quarter Final. Additionally, for Iceland in the European Championships, she was captain of the squad, but failed to get out of the Group stage of that tournament.
ara was first featured on the site on 21st June 2014, and has since made the top 25 once, finishing 12th in 2014, meaning this year is her highest ever finish.

Top 25 of 2017: #11 Yuliya Levchenko

Yuliya had a huge breakthrough year. Having only just turned 20 at the end of the year, the Ukrainian High Jumper won two major medals, and also a old at Junior level. In march at the Indoor European Championships she won a Bronze medal. The at the World Championships in London she won Silver in the Summer. As a consequence she was named the IAAF's raising star of the year for 2017.
Yuliya was only first featured on HWiS this summer, around the time of her World Championship appearance. On October 4th she had her first feature, and this is now her first appearance in the Top 25 of the year.
